Jan. 25, 2006 The University of Texas-Pan American Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced the formation of the UTPA Lettermen's Club, which will allow former student-athletes an opportunity to rejoin the Bronc and Lady Bronc athletic programs. "We are starting the Lettermen's Club as an opportunity to reconnect with our past student-athletes," said Director of Athletics Scott Street. "We appreciate all the efforts that our former student-athletes have provided during their time here, and we want to welcome them back because they are a part of our tradition here at UTPA." The UTPA Lettermen's Club will be a part of a larger umbrella in the fundraising campaigns and will be represented by three former student-athletes in Tony de la Pena (Men's Basketball), Barbara Gonzalez (Women's Tennis) and Becky Boykin (Women's Volleyball). These three former student-athletes chose UTPA because they strived to attain excellence on the field of play, in the classroom as well as around the Rio Grande Valley. It's the representatives like these that make UTPA Athletics what it is today. By becoming a part of the UTPA Lettermen's Club, former student-athletes will help provide athletic scholarship support as well as other necessary funding for over 200 of the Bronc and Lady Bronc student-athletes. The funds raised through the UTPA Lettermen's Club will help the Broncs and Lady Broncs provide each student-athlete will a first-class educational experience; ensure that each student-athlete will have the opportunity excel in the classroom and on the field of play; and provide the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics with an opportunity give its coaches and student-athletes the necessary resources in order to be successful. The UTPA Lettermen's Club will give former student-athletes an opportunity to reconnect with their former teammates as well as give them a chance to meet the new Bronc and Lady Broncs athletes who are representing their alma mater. As a member, you will have the opportunity to attend exclusive events, meet UTPA coaches and student-athletes and enjoy Bronc and Lady Bronc benefits. For a special introductory offer, the UTPA Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has joined forces with the UTPA Alumni Association to offer each former student-athlete a membership in both the UTPA Lettermen's Club and Alumni Association for $50. This special alone is an $80 value. In addition to joining the UTPA Alumni Association, members of the UTPA Lettermen's Club will receive Bronc and Lady Bronc apparel, program recognition, membership card/decal and a tax deduction.
