Feb. 5, 2010 EDINBURG, TX--University of Texas - Pan American Director of Athletics Chris King announced on Friday (Feb.5) that Andrew Haring has been named Associate Athletic Director for External Operations. Haring's appointment concludes a national search for the position. Haring comes to UTPA after three years as the Assistant Athletics Director for Development at the University of Texas at San Antonio. During his time at UTSA, Haring was directly responsible for restructuring the athletics annual fund from a booster club to a philanthropic-orientated organization. The transformation included the establishment of new procedures and operating structure and elements and has resulted in increased giving, as well as number of donors. "I am extremely excited and honored to be a Bronc! The leadership and vision of Dr. Nelsen, Dr. Edwards, and Chris King provides an outstanding opportunity for UTPA Athletics to become something truly special. I am humbled and eager to join the talented current Bronc staff, coaches, and administrators," said the newly hired associate athletic director for external operations. "There is tremendous pride and a strong heritage throughout the Rio Grande Valley in support of UTPA. I am looking forward to joining the community and doing my part to provide ways for people to get intimately involved with Bronc Athletics. With the backing of everyone associated with UTPA Athletics, we will continue to help our student-athletes reach unprecedented success in both the classroom and athletic competitions," added Haring. "I am delighted to welcome Andrew Haring as the new associate athletic director for external operations at The University of Texas-Pan American", said Chris King, Director of Athletics. "His commitment to excellence, tremendous enthusiasm, and knowledge of external operations will ensure success for our athletic department. Numerous Athletic Directors contacted me about his passion, loyalty, character and ability to relate to the key constituents, alumni and community members. One of our main goals is to become the most visible marketing tool and front porch for this University, and I strongly believe Andrew is a key component as we look to put in our strategic plan and vision for this department."
"I also would like to thank the search committee for their commitment and dedication to the process of hiring Andrew," said King. Prior to UTSA, Haring served as the assistant director of athletic development at Northern Illinois University. During his time at NIU, Haring was involved with several significant accomplishments within the athletic development unit. This included the completion of the private funding portion (over $7.4 million) of Jeffrey and Kimberly Yordon Academic and Athletic Performance Center, which opened in 2007. This project was the third-largest capital campaign in the history of the institution. Additionally, in his final year, annual giving to the school's athletic scholarship fund increased by over 50 percent and surpassed $1 million for the year for the first time. A 1992 graduate of The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Haring earned a bachelor's degree in journalism. He also received his master's degree in sports management from The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1994.
