The University of Texas-Pan American Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Monday (June 16) that Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Support and Student Services Ricky Vaughn has been named the UTPA Interim Athletic Director.

"It's definitely a big change from the role that I play but I'm very excited to serve in this role," said Vaughn. "It's going to give me some great experience that will help me be an athletic administrator. Dr. Edwards asked me to serve in this position and hopefully I'll be able to do what the university wants me to do. I will work to fill any things that they need to be implemented and help this university through this transition."

Vaughn spent the previous year as the that Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Support and Student Services where he was responsible for implementing and monitoring the academic progress of UTPA's 170 student-athletes while overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Student-Athlete Learning Center and its support staff.

Vaughn takes the role of UTPA interim Athletic Director following the resignation of Scott Street on August 31. Street would have entered his fourth year as Director of Athletics.

Street currently serves as a special assistant with Dr. John Edwards, the vice president for enrollment and student services on a several projects for The University of Texas-Pan American.

The University of Texas-Pan American Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will begin a national search for a new UTPA Athletic Director.
