The Grape Escape-Gourmet Food Tasting Highlights Bronc Athletics Fundraiser

The UTPA Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will host a fundraiser event called `The Grape Escape' set to be held on Friday (Aug. 10) at the Shary Shivers Estate.

Food connoisseurs and sports enthusiasts alike will find something to please their palate at this year's "The Grape Escape" Beverage and Gourmet Food Tasting fundraiser sponsored by the Bronc Athletic Club. The event will showcase a wide selection of beverages from around the world.

"Whether you are a sports fan, a person who appreciates fine food, an alumnus of UTPA, or just looking for an entertaining Friday evening that supports a great program - you will enjoy this event," said Scott Street, Director of Athletics at UTPA.

While enjoying hors d'oeuvres, attendees can shop at the silent auction for sports memorabilia, men's and woman's fine jewelry, gift baskets, gift certificates, and much more. Smile Again-Massage Therapists will also be providing complimentary massages for those in attendance.

The menu for The Grape Escape will feature an eclectic mix of Nuevo Latino, Old World Favorites and Progressive American. Sodexho's General Manager-Elson Rivera, who has been in the Foodservice business for 35 years starting off as an Executive Chef and then moving into management, was instrumental in planning the menu for the Grape Escape.

The MVP title Sponsors for this event are Sodexho, and SOCIALIFE News Magazine. Other sponsors for the Grape Escape include Lone Star National Bank, International Bank of Commerce, The Sign Depot and Exceptional Wines.

The event will take place from 6:00-11:00 p.m., and tickets for the Grape Escape are $25 per person or $35 a couple. Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling the UTPA Athletics Office at the UTPA Athletics Department at 381-2221. Tickets may also be purchased at the door.

The Grape Escape will be a fundraising event to support athletic scholarships. Proceeds from the event will benefit the 13 intercollegiate sports in the UTPA Athletics Program. Musical guest featured will include After June.
