Aug. 7, 2006 UTPA Director of Athletics Scott Street was selected as the Treasurer for the Board of Directors on the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification on Monday (Aug. 7). A long-time member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification, Street takes over the position of Treasurer from Jack Weakley, who announced his retirement at the end of the summer. Street becomes a part of a nine-member Board of Directors, which consists of six Athletic Trainer Directors, one Physician Director, one Public Director and one Corporate/Educational Director, in order to govern the Board of Certification. At The University of Texas-Pan American, Street begins his second year as the Director of Athletics where he has revitalized the Bronc Athletic Club, which works with friends, family, alumni and advocates of UTPA in order to provide the support necessary to ensure the continual development and improvement of all of the Bronc and Lady Bronc athletic programs. Another one of Street's main objectives at UTPA was to jumpstart the UTPA Lettermen's Club, which allows former student-athletes an opportunity to rejoin the Bronc and Lady Bronc athletic programs by reconnecting with former teammates as well as a chance to meet the new student-athletes that are representing their alma mater. The UTPA Director of Athletics has also played an important role in the development of the United Basketball Conference - a scheduling alliance with five other NCAA Division I Independent institutions that offers a home-and-away series between each program during the 2006-07 men's and women's basketball seasons. A main goal for Street since he was named the Director of Athletics has been to get UTPA into a conference, and the UBC is a firm first-step into realizing that ultimate goal. Throughout his tenure as Director of Athletics, Street has hired three department directors as well as three head coaches, which has revitalized the UTPA Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and has strengthened the support staff for its student-athletes. Street will begin his duties as Treasurer of the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification, Inc. beginning on September 1st, 2006. The BOC has been responsible for the certification of athletic trainers since 1969 and provides a certification program for the entry-level athletic trainer by establishing requirements for maintaining status as a certified athletic trainer (AT).
