Sept. 20, 2004 Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine Jim Lancaster announced on Monday (Sept. 20) that Justin Zabrosky has joined the athletic training staff at The University of Texas-Pan American. "The University of Texas-Pan American provides me many opportunities to build on my professional knowledge while gaining experience at a Division I institution," said Zabrosky. "In a athletic medicine environment such as UTPA, it allows me to work alongside two true professionals in Jim Lancaster and Jackie Downar. With their guidance, I can really hit the ground running, which permits an immediate impact and gain real experience in the profession of Athletic Training." "We are excited to have Justin on board. He comes to us from a University with a large variety of sport programs. I believe his experiences will bring some fresh ideas to our sports medicine program, and we are looking forward to the things that he can bring to the table," added Lancaster. A Certified Athletic Trainer by the National Athletic Trainer's Association, Zabrosky joins UTPA after serving as the head student athletic trainer at the University of Vermont in Burlington, VT, where he was in charge of women's soccer and men's ice hockey. In that role, he evaluated, counseled and oversaw rehabilitation services in accordance with prevention and care of athletic injuries and provided coverage of on- and off-campus competitions along with the athletic training room, which was supervised by a Certified Trainer. Zabrosky also assisted in pre-season evaluations and screening for Vermont's student-athletes, provided athletic training coverage of athletic activities and instructed on ways to reduce injuries and improve performance. He also maintained treatment records and scheduled patients for treatment coordinating communications between the student-athlete, coach and physician. The former Catamount has worked a variety of athletic events, including the Burlington City Marathon on three occasions along with Vermont's Spring Tennis and Softball Invitational and Bank North Men's Soccer Tournament. He has also worked at the National Hockey League's New York Rangers Training Camp. Zabrosky is a member of the National Athletic Trainer's Association (NATA), American College of Sports Medicine, American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance as well as the Vermont Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
