Jim Brooks spent 33 years as a coach, athletic director and professor at Pan-American where he played a pivotal role in the construction of the UTPA Fieldhouse, Orville Cox Tennis Center as well as Jody Ramsey Stadium...is responsible for the hiring of Al Ogletree (Baseball), Tony Guerrero (Men's Golf), Sam Williams (Men's Basketball), Abe Lemons (Men's Basketball), Harry Meng (Men's Tennis) and Don Russell (Men's Tennis), who recorded six NAIA National Championships-five in tennis and one in basketball...oversaw the Pan American's emergence from NAIA to NCAA Division II to NCAA Division I under his watch...earned the knute Rockne Athletic Director of the Year Award...served as an assistant coach for Bear Bryant at Kentucky and coached Edinburg Regional College football team from 1948 to 1950...voted into the Rio Grande Valley Sports Hall of Fame in 1990.
