The Tyrone Brothers, James, Leonard and Wayne, played for UTPA in the 1970s. James, the eldest, played in 1970 and 1971 where he now holds the No. 3 record in batting average with a .363 and the No. 6 record in stolen bases with 71. During his tenure with the Broncs, James recorded eight triples. In his final season with the Broncs, he stole 51 bags and was walked on 50 occasions. He was named an All-American in two consecutive seasons by the NCAA, AACBC and Topps. At the end of his tenure, he signed a professional contract with the Cubs and play in 1972 and 1974-75 and with the A's in 1977.

Wayne played for the Broncs in 1971 and 1972 and at the end of his tenure with the Broncs, signed a professional contract with the Cubs in 1976.

The final Tyrone, Leonard, was a member of the UTPA baseball program from 1976-79. In his time with the Broncs, Leonard ranked fifth in runs scored (141) and stolen bases (79), seventh in batting average (.387) and eighth in games played (182).
