Broncs Suffer Setback in Game One of Two-Game Series

April 15, 2008

The University of Texas-Pan American baseball program suffered an 11-7 setback to the Texas State Bobcats this afternoon (Apr. 15) at Bobcat Field in San Marcos, Texas.

The loss brings the Broncs to a 12-23 overall record on the season.

The Broncs took an early start by putting up a run in the top of the first by Ryan Vest on a single down the middle by Bonham Hough.

Texas State would answer back in the bottom of the second with a home run to right field by Ben Theriot; both the Broncs and Bobcats would be scoreless in the third inning.

The Broncs would come back with two more runs in the top of the fourth with runs by Bonham Hough and Nick Spears, both unearned. Hough was to score on an error by the third baseman to first and Spears on a double down the right side by Roly Gonzalez.

Jordan Rutenbar and Bonham Hough were to add two more runs for the Broncs in the top of the fifth. Rutenbar was to score on a single to the shortstop by Nick Spears and Mendoza was to get the RBI with a single to right field bringing in Bonham Hough.

The bottom of the sixth would be the worst for the Broncs giving up six runs making the score 7-5. Spenser Dennis, Jonathan Farrow, Adam Witek, Thomas Field, Paul Goldschmidt, and Elliot Babcock would bring in the runs for the `Cats.

The Broncs would be answerless in the top of the sixth but would give up three more runs giving the Bobcats a five run lead.

Andrew Perez was to have the only home run for the Broncs with a homerun to left field. Perez's homerun would be the only run on the board for the Broncs in the eighth.

The Bobcats would make one final run before letting the Broncs score once again in the ninth. Billy Donaho would bring in the final run on a single down the right side by Bonham Hough.

Bonham Hough would finish the night going 4-for-5 with two run and two RBI's.

Adam Witek would end the night 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

The Broncs will finish the two-game series tomorrow afternoon (Apr. 16) at Bobcat Field with first pitch slated for 6:00 p.m.
