Josh Wymer (Fort Worth, TX/Foster Ridge H.S.), Roly Gonzalez (Miami, FL/UNC-Greensboro) and Ray Silva (Clearlake, CA/Santa Rosa J.C.) represented The University of Texas-Pan American baseball program on the 2007 NCAA Division I All-Independent Baseball Teams, which were released on Monday (May 28).
Wymer was the top vote-getter for the Broncs as the UTPA freshman earned All-Independent Second Team laurels while Gonzalez and Silva were selected to the All-Independent Honorable Mention Team.
Wymer finished the 2007 season with a 5-7 record to go along with a 3.66 earned run average in 16 starts where he posted four complete games for the Broncs. The UTPA newcomer hurled a team-high 110.2 innings pitched where he struck out a 65 hitters and forced opponents to post a .255 batting average against him this past season.
The UTPA right-hander collected victories against Texas State, University of Illinois-Chicago, University of Illinois, Prairie View A&M and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi this past season and recorded 11 games of at least 7.0 innings of work on the mound during the 2007 campaign. Wymer was selected as the Independent Pitcher of the Week on February 13th as well as the Citrus Tournament All-Tournament Team and Al Ogletree All-Tournament Team.
Gonzalez finished with a team-high .342 batting average where he collected 54 hits in 158 at-bats to go along with a team-high 20 stolen bases during the season. The UTPA outfielder plated 31 runs and drove in 23 runners to go along with a .441 on-base percentage and .386 slugging percentage in his first campaign with the Broncs.
The UTPA newcomer collected at least one hit in 33 of 47 games for the Broncs while recording a career-high four hits on two occasions against Sam Houston State and North Dakota State. Gonzalez was selected as the Independent Player of the Week on March 6th and Independent Newcomer of the Week laurels on April 3rd while earning selections Citrus Tournament All-Tournament Team and Al Ogletree All-Tournament Team.
Silva finished his senior campaign with the Broncs with a 1-2 record to go along with a team-high four saves. He recorded a 1-2 record with a 4.08 earned run average in 28.2 innings of action. The UTPA right-hander collected saves against Texas State, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Prairie View A&M and Dallas Baptist this past season and notched his lone triumph of his senior campaign against Northern Colorado.
The 2007 NCAA Division I Independent Baseball Teams were selected by Sports Information Directors and Head Baseball Coaches at member institutions.
