Four Broncs Earn NIT All-Tournament Team Accolades

After recording the National Independent Tournament Tri-Championship on Sunday (May 25) at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium, four Broncs were named to the all-tournament team for their efforts in the five-day tournament.

Cody Cisper (Peggs, OK/ Northeastern State Univ.), Roly Gonzalez (Miami, FL/ UNC-Greensboro), Adrian Garza (San Juan, TX/ PSJA High School) and Jordan Rutenbar (Waxahachie, TX/ Tyler Junior College) were selected to the 17 member all-tournament team.

Cisper closed out his senior campaign with his sixth win of the season against LeMoyne (May 25) for the National Independent Tournament Tri-Championship title. Cisper pitched 8.2 innings, allowing seven hits, two runs - all earned while striking out five batters.

Gonzalez - a senior outfielder - finished the tournament with a .375 batting average to go with three runs scored, one double, one triple and five stolen bases. Against LeMoyne (May 25), Gonzalez went 2-for-4 to go with two runs scored and a game-high three stolen bases.

Garza was named as the all-tournament team relief pitcher for his appearances in two games where he recorded two saves. The first save came in game one against New Jersey Institute of Technology (May 22). Garza collected the win after 2.1 innings with three strikeouts and allowed only one walk. The 6'1 freshman recorded his second save of the season in a 5-2 victory over LeMoyne.

Rutenbar - a Tyler Junior College transfer - recorded a tournament high .583 batting average with seven hits in 12 appearances at the plate including five RBI, five runs scored, a double and five walks. Rutenbar finished with at least one hit in each of the four games of the tournament.

The Broncs closed out the 2008 season with a 21-35 overall record and the National Independent Tournament Tri-Championship.
