EDINBURG, TX--The University of Texas-Pan American head baseball coach, Manny Mantrana announced the signing of Michael Denis, Jonathan Delgado and Michael Zouzalik, to National Letters of Intent to join the Broncs in the 2010-11 academic campaign, today (Nov. 16).
Michael Zouzalik, is a junior college transfer from Cisco Junior College, Jonathan Delgado, a transfer from Blinn College, is a right-handed pitcher and Michael Denis, is a shortstop from Archbishop Carroll High School in Miami.
"Michael Zouzalik, a junior college transfer from Cisco Junior College, throws three pitches for strikes. His fastball ranges from 87 to 91 mph and he has good command of his secondary pitches. Michael has the ability to step in and impact our pitching staff at the top of the rotation," said head coach Manny Mantrana. "Michael is a young player age wise, as he will be a 19 year old junior, but has a very high ceiling and tremendous potential.
"Jonathan has the ability to mix pitches in any count and his hard sinking fastball is what caught our attention and as a ground ball pitcher, he will fit perfectly with our philosophy here at UTPA," said Mantrana of Delgado. "His fast ball ranges from 86 to 91 mph and his secondary pitches are also very good. I know Jonathan will have an immediate impact on our pitching staff."
Michael Denis, a shortstop with great hands, a powerful arm, and excellent speed, comes to UTPA from Archbishop Carroll High School in Miami.
"Michael has all the tools, great hands, a powerful arm, and excellent speed, to be a top Division I shortstop and we are very excited to have him as part of our second recruiting class here at UTPA. He will be a tremendous player for us the next 4 years," said Mantrana.
"Coach Lopez and Coach Piercefield have worked extremely hard and have done a wonderful job of identifying and bringing to UTPA student-athletes who will not only compete on the field and help us win baseball games but will also compete in the class room and be great representatives of the baseball program," said Mantrana. "We look forward to having these great young men in a Bronc uniform next season."
The Broncs open up the 2010 season with the Al Ogletree Classic on February 26-28, at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium, home of Bronc Baseball.
