The University of Texas-Pan American head baseball coach Willie Gawlik announced on Wednesday (Dec. 5) that Scott Wingo (Sachse, TX/Ranger Junior College) has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the Broncs in the 2008-09 academic campaign.
"We are excited about Scott coming into our program at the University of Texas Pan American," said head baseball coach Willie Gawlik. "He is valuable because he has pitched in several different roles. We look for him to be in a starter role for the Broncs.
"He has good command, mound presence, is a great competitor, and has a great passion for the game. He will make an immediate contribution to the team," added Gawlik.
The newly-signed Bronc comes to the Rio Grande Valley from Ranger Junior College where he finished his first season with a sub 4.00 earned run average in 38 innings of work on the hill. Wingo finished his season at Ranger Junior College with a 3-0 record, including three saves.
During his prep career at Sachse High School, the newly-inked Bronc was a two-time all-district selection, a winner of the silver slugger award as a junior and collected the gold glove award as a senior.
Off the diamond, Wingo was a standout in the classroom where he graduated high school with a 3.2 grade point average and is currently riding a 3.2 at Ranger Junior College. .
Wingo recently pitched in the Texas Junior College All-Star game that was held at Baylor University in September.
Wingo is the second Bronc to sign a National Letter of Intent for the upcoming 2008-09 academic campaign.
