2006-07 [Junior Season]
The UTPA junior recorded one of the best all-around seasons in program history in recent years as Burrell was selected as both the United Basketball League Newcomer of the Year as well as the Independent Newcomer of the Year... cited as an All-United Basketball League first team selection and All-Independent first team award winner this past season... selected to both the All-United Basketball League Newcomer Team and All-Independent Newcomer Team... voted as the Male Newcomer of the Year at the end of the year UTPA Athletics Banquet... averaged a team-high 15.6 points per game and collected 10 or more points in 25 of 29 games... ranked first on the team in total points (452), points per game, field goals made (161), field goal attempts (372), three-point field goals made (81), three-point field goal attempts (203), free throw percentage (.875) and minutes played (915)... recorded the fourth-most three-point field goals made and sixth-highest three-point field goal attempts in single-season program history... ranked in the top 10 among all NCAA Division I Independent players in scoring average, total points, total field goals made, total field goal attempts, three-point field goals made, three-point field goal attempts, three-point field goal percentage and total steals... cited as the Independent Player of the Week on two occasions... earned Independent Newcomer of the Week honors once this past season... scored 20 or more points on eight occasions while leading the Broncs in scoring in 15 of 29 games... scored a career-high 31 points against Texas State (Nov. 18) as he connected on 12-of-21 field goals, including six three-pointers... scored 26 points on 10-of-15 shooting to go along with six rebounds and five assists against the University of Texas-Arlington (Nov. 27)... scored 27 points on 10-of-21 shooting to go along with nine rebounds, three steals and two assists in the championships game of the UCF Holiday Classic against Central Florida (Dec. 30)... averaged 25.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.0 assists in a pair of games at the UCF Holiday Classic en route to earning All-Tournament Team laurels... scored 23 points on 9-of-17 shooting to go along with nine rebounds in the Broncs' first victory at the UCF Holiday Classic against James Madison (Dec. 29)... scored 24 points on 9-of-15 shooting, including 6-of-9 from behind the three-point arc, against Northwestern (Feb. 21)... collected his first career double-double (points-rebounds) against IPFW (Feb. 24) with a 13-point, 10-rebound performance... scored 21 points on 7-of-14 shooting, including 5-of-8 from behind the three-point line, on the road at the Air Force Academy (Dec. 6)... posted 25 points on 7-of-9 shooting, including 6-of-8 shooting from behind the three-point line, to go along with seven rebounds and three steals against New Jersey Institute of Technology... finished the season ranked second on the team in total rebounds (148), offensive rebounds (37), defensive rebounds (111), rebounds per game (5.1), three-point field goal percentage (.399), assists (41) and steals (42)... appeared in all 29 games this past season, earning a position in the starting lineup on 27 occasions.
2004-06 [Paris Junior College]
Burrell was a member of a Paris Junior College squad that won the 2004-05 National Junior College Athletic Association National Championship after the Dragons handed 16th-ranked Moberly Area Community College a 70-61 setback to clinch the crown... was the first national title for Paris Junior College and the first time that the Dragons had advanced to the national tournament since the 1954 season... was part of a Paris Junior College program that finished 28-9 during their national championship campaign and advanced to the national tournament after defeating second-ranked San Jacinto College in the NJCAA Region XIV Tournament... helped the Dragons defeat sixth-ranked College of Southern Idaho prior to defeating Moberly Area Community College for the title... played an integral part in the Dragons' championship run as he averaged 7.9 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game while appearing in all 37 games as a freshman... served as an important ingredient in the Dragons' posting a top-10 ranking in team defense at the end of the season... led Paris Junior College to another outstanding season in 2005-06 where he guided the Dragons to a 24-6 mark, including 18-4 record in Region XIV action... ranked second on the squad in scoring, averaging 15.4 points per evening, while posting 5.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 0.7 steals per game... connected on 85.5 percent (53-of-62) of his free throw attempts, which topped all marks among Region XIV players... cited a third team All-Region XIV Athletic Conference selection during his sophomore campaign... helped the Dragons record a top-seed in the Region XIV Men's Basketball Tournament... connected on 38.4 percent (118-of-307) of his field goal attempts to go along with 34.8 percent (55-of-158) of his three-point field goal attempts... selected as the Dragons' Most Valuable Player and earned the Leadership Award... helped the squad to a combined 52-15 record during his two seasons with the program.
High School
Burrell was a standout athlete at Nacogdoches High School where he was selected as the Most Valuable Player in both basketball and track and field in each of his final three seasons... selected as one of the top 100 seniors in the State of Texas during his final campaign with Nacogdoches... helped the squad to a district championship in his final season... qualified for the regional championships as a senior in track and field... earned seven letters at Nacogdoches High School - four in track and field and three in basketball... selected to the Who's Who Among American High School Students.
