Broncs End Road Trip on Disappointing Note

Jan. 11, 2005

Box Score

The road trip had to come to an end.

Unfortunately, The University of Texas-Pan American men's basketball team was unable to end it on a high note as the Broncs suffered their sixth consecutive road loss with a 73-51 setback to Utah Valley State in Orem, UT, on Tuesday (Jan. 11).

The Wolverines were led by the nation's second leading scorer Ronnie Price, who entered the game averaging 25.6 points per game. The UVSC senior scored a game-high 23 points on 8-17 shooting, including 4-7 from behind the three-point line, and added six assists.

Sophomore David Heck collected a double-double (points-rebounds) with a 20-point, 11-rebound performance while connecting on 9-13 shots. He became the third player this season to record a double-double against the Broncs.

Senior Alvaidas Gedminas (Plunge, Lithuania/Kirtland Community College) led the Broncs in scoring for the second consecutive game, notching 10 points on 4-5 shooting, in 12 minutes of action. Junior Derrick East (Binger, OK/Lookeba-Sickles H.S.) rallied off eight points while freshman Zach Trader (LaPorte, TX/LaPorte H.S.) collected six points and a career-high 10 rebounds.

The Broncs trailed at halftime by a 32-28 margin, but were completely dominated in the second half by the Wolverines, who held an 18-point (41-23) advantage in the final frame. For the game, Utah Valley State shot 45 percent (28-62) compared to the Broncs' 37 percent (19-51). The Wolverines also grabbed 41 rebounds compared to 32 for UTPA.

UTPA entered the game ranked 37th in the nation in three-point field goals made, but were held 1-8 shooting from behind the arc, which was a season-low for the squad.

The Broncs will be back in action on Monday (Jan. 17) against UT - San Antonio, who qualified for the NCAA National Tournament a season ago. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m.
