The University of Texas-Pan American dropped its second straight road game against Northwestern, 56-48, in Evanston, IL, on Friday (Dec. 31).
The Broncs, who shot 34 percent (16-47) for the game, were led by Matt Berry's (Tulsa, OK/Indiana State University) 11 points and five rebounds while Eric Montalvo (La Joya, TX/La Joya High School) added 10 points and five assists. UTPA came into the contest ranked in the top 10 in the nation in three-pointers made per game, but were held to a season-low four treys in the contest.
Freshman Thomas Sanders (Sugarland, TX/Home School) scored a career-high nine points on 3-3 shooting in 21 minutes of action. Chris Fagan (Bronx, NY/Trinidad State College) scored eight points and nine rebounds, and Alvaidas Gedminas (Plunge, Lithuania/Kirtland Community College) contributed with eight points and eight boards.
Tim Doyle led Northwestern with a career-high 13 points while grabbing six rebounds. T.J. Parker added 10 points for the Wildcats.
With the loss, UTPA fell to 7-5 while Northwestern improved its record to 7-5.
The Broncs will be back in action on Sunday (Jan. 2) against Oklahoma with game time slated for 1:00 p.m.
