Game Notes - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

The University of Texas-Pan American men's basketball team hosts the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders this Monday (Jan. 25) afternoon at the UTPA Fieldhouse for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off time.

The Broncs enter Monday's contest with a 3-17 mark and a 2-0 Great West Conference record. Tonight's contest also marks the second game out of conference play and the second meeting of the year with the Islanders.

The two met earlier in the season in Corpus Christi, Texas where the Islanders defeated the Broncs 77-55. Overall, the Islanders hold a 10-5 advantage over UTPA.

In the Broncs last outing, the Broncs were led by freshman Aaron Urbanus and junior Nick Weiermiller, who scored 13 points apiece over TCU. Urbanus' 13-point performance on 3-of-6 shooting from three-point range was his third consecutive game in double-figures.

UTPA outshot the Frogs from three-point range with 44 percent (10-23) shooting compared to TCU's 21 percent (3-14).

The Islanders, who are 10-8 for the season, enter tonight's contest on a five-game win streak. All five victories come from Southland Conference foes. On the road, the Islanders fare differently with a 3-7 mark.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is coming off a 66-62 overtime win over UTSA this past Saturday in San Antonio.

Kevin Palmer led the Islanders with 18 points, four rebounds, and three steals. Demond Watts also scored in double-figures with 15 points, to go along with eight rebounds, three blocks, and one steal and assist.

Overall, Kevin Palmer leads the squad with 20.9 points per game, along with 5.1 rebounds per game. Demond Watts leads the squad in rebounds with 7.9 and ranks second on the team with 11.8 points per game.

After tonight's contest, the Broncs return to Great West Conference action as they host North Dakota on Thursday, Jan. 28 for an 8:00 p.m. tip-off time.
