Game Information
UTPA will face Utah Valley State College on Saturday (Jan. 28) at the McKay Center in Orem, UT, with a 10:00 p.m. central time tip-off.
Fans of the Green and Orange can hear the game live via the airwaves with the new voice of the Broncs - Alex del Barrio. The game will be aired on ESPN Radio 1240 AM.
This will be the third meeting between the two programs with the Wolverines holding a 2-0 lead in the all-time series records.
In Their Last Meeting
In their last meeting, Utah Valley State came away with a 75-71 victory over the Broncs at the UTPA Fieldhouse on Feb. 21, 2005.
The Broncs had four players reach double figures in the game - Chris Fagan (15), Eric Montalvo (14), Derrick East (12) and Sergio Sanchez (11).
In Their Last Game
The Broncs dropped an 84-54 decision to Conference USA-foe Southern Methodist University at the UTPA Fieldhouse on Tuesday (Jan. 24) and dropped their record to 5-15 on the season.
Larry Sheppard finished with a game-high 18 points while collecting a career-high six steals, four assists and two rebounds in 35 minutes.
The Broncs were playing without two of their top five scorers in Dexter Shankle and Derrick East. Both sat out due to injury.
Bronc Bytes - News And Notes
Larry Sheppard is the only Bronc to start in all 20 games this season.
In the last five games, Sheppard has recorded 36 assists and has only committed nine turnovers. He has posted an assist-to-turnover ratio of 4:1. During that span, he is also averaging 10.8 points per game.
Sophomore Danny Puente scored a career-high 11 points against against SMU, which surpassed his last three games combined.
Scouting the Opponent - Utah Valley State College
Utah Valley State College enters the contest with an 8-11 record under fourth-year head coach Dick Hunsaker.
The Wolverines have been almost unbeatable at the McKay Center this season, recording a 7-1 record at home. Utah Valley State's only home loss this season came at an 82-69 decision to High Point.
The Wolverines are averaging 73.0 points per game at the McKay Center compared to 60.5 points per game on the road.
