Zach Trader (LaPorte, TX/LaPorte H.S.) represented The University of Texas-Pan American men's basketball team on the 2006 NCAA Division I Academic All-Independent, which was released on Tuesday (Feb. 6).
The UTPA junior, who earned the distinction during the 2005-06 season, has recorded a 3.58 grade point average as a criminal justice major during his collegiate career and was cited last campaign as an honorable mention NCAA Division I-AAA Athletic Directors Association Scholar-Athlete Team.
During the 2006-07 campaign, Trader has helped the Broncs to a 12-10 record and is currently averaging a career-high 8.4 points per game, which ranks him third on the squad, to go along with 2.5 rebounds in 22 games this season.
The NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Academic All-Independent Team was selected by Sports Information Directors at member institutions. Nominations for each school were accepted for student-athletes who had at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA, had reached at least a sophomore academic standing and were a starter or key reserve for their team.
