1. After your first exhibition game against Monterrey Tech, what was your view of how the game had gone, and what did the team learn from it?
JC - "I think the game was fine. We learned more about our team defense than anything else. We have to take what we learned from that game and move forward. We missed a lot of open shots, but you'll have days like that. I think our defense was most important."
2. With eight news guys filling out the roster this season, how has the progress of the team been both on and off the court from the first day of conditioning until now?
JC - "Conditioning was really tough, but the good thing was that the guys came to work everyday. We want to be better than last year's team, and we have to work hard to do it. It was good that everybody stuck together and got through it."
3. Recently - the team has had to go back to double sessions in order to get back to some of the teaching of the system that Coach Davenport runs. How has that played a positive or negative with the team?
JC - "I think that it's positive. There will be more players that will complain about going through two-a-days and being tired, but this is a learning process and we need to get better. If practicing twice a day is going to make us better then I'm all for it."
4. In your opinion, what do you believe are the strengths and weaknesses of the team thus far?
JC - "I think that our biggest strength is our team speed. We can really get and down the court. I think that our biggest weakness right now is our rebounding because our big guys can rebound, but we need the entire team getting them as well."
5. The Broncs have always had one prolific shooter from behind the three-point line in their tradition. Do you believe that your style of play fits that mold to continue that trend?
JC - "I just look to find a seam. I know that Larry (Sheppard) is going to get me the ball or the big guys are going to kick it out to me so I'm always ready to shoot. I'm always looking to spot up for a shot, and I know that somebody will find me."
6. If you had to describe yourself as a player - how would you do it and why?
JC - "I think that I'm a strong player. I'm a strong shooter and good passer, but I need to work on my defense. I have a good knowledge of the game, and I think that I'm underrated at times."
7. You signed with the Broncs over the summer - what made you decide to come to the Rio Grande Valley and play for UTPA?
JC - "A big reason why I came here was because I have the opportunity to get my degree paid in a fifth-year if I needed it. I also wanted to get a change to turn around a program, and after talking with Coach Dav, he told me that he had a good group of guys coming in. I felt that my style of play fit what we are trying to do here."
8. What's the biggest obstacle that you've had to overcome in order to reach this point in your life?
JC - "I think overcoming all of the doubters. Scouts have said that I'm more of a power guard, and I'm not fast enough. I'm learning that you can't please everyone, but I want to prove all everybody wrong about me. I knew that if I played hard then somebody was going to find me, and they did."
9. What would you say would be something that the everyday student wouldn't understand about life as a collegiate basketball player?
JC - "I think really they don't understand the time that we put in. It's like a job at times because I'll leave the house at 7:30 in the morning and not get back until 7:30 that night. We put in a lot of pain and suffering in order to make the team better and hopefully it pays off. Also, we miss a lot of class because we are on the road so we have to really teach ourselves what's going on. It's hard to find extra time to try to study, especially when you are on the road so much."
10. Who has had the greatest impact on your life and why?
JC - "I would say my mom and dad. I know what they go through in order to help out my brothers and sisters. They worked hard to get me everything that I ever wanted, and they gave it their all for us."
