Andrew Tredway

Player Profile

Position:
Head Coach (2nd season)

Alma Mater:
Undergraduate - University of Oregon (2000)

Andrew Tredway begins his second season as head men's golf coach at The University of Texas-Pan American.

In his first season as a collegiate head coach, Tredway completely revamped the attitude and performances of the UTPA men's golf program. His focus and belief in the total roundness of a student-athlete has been greatly applauded by his squad, and their showings on the golf course, in the classroom and as part of the Rio Grande Valley are a true reflection of his philosophy.

Under the direction of Tredway, the Broncs produced one of the most successful spring seasons in program history as they posted their first tournament championship since the 2002 season to go along with four top-five finishes in the squad's final five tournaments. Tredway and the Broncs captured the 2006 National Minority College Golf Championships after outlasting Bethune-Cookman and the remainder of the 11-field tournament by a 10-stroke margin.

The Broncs took third overall honors in back-to-back tournaments at the SHSU Bearkat Classic as well as the SFA Crown Classic and finished fourth overall at the National Independent Men's Golf Championships. One of the most impressive tournament results that truly showed the progress of the Broncs' program came at the Oregon Duck Invitational where the squad finished seventh overall, but proved to be a major player in the field of 12 teams.

Tredway made a tremendous impact on the individual performances of his squad as the Broncs had 10 players finish in the top-10 during the final five tournaments of the season. As a team, the Broncs dropped their strokes average from 78.4 during the fall season to 76.1 in the spring, and five members of the team each saw their individual strokes average improve during the spring.

During that span, Tredway helped guide Craig Berger and Kyle Tudi to individual championships, which was the first time in program history that two teammates each captured a tournament championship and only the second time in program history that the Broncs had two individual tournament championships under their belt. Berger captured the SHSU Bearkat Classic while Tudi became the first UTPA since Manuel Inman in 1999 to win the National Minority College Golf Championship.

Tredway also observed as three members of his squad earned post-season All-Independent honors with Berger leading the way with second team All-Independent laurels. Tudi was a third team All-Independent selection while Shane Pearce garnered honorable mention All-Independent Newcomer Team accolades.

During the 2005 fall season, the Broncs' head coach helped guide his squad to a pair of top-10 finishes, including a season-best sixth-place showing at the ORU Shootout hosted by Oral Roberts University. At that event, Berger finished seventh overall, which was the highest showing of the season for any UTPA golfer.

While the Broncs made dramatic strides on the golf course during the 2005-06 season, they also made tremendous progress in the classroom as the squad finished with a 3.047 team grade point average, which was the second highest GPA for any UTPA men's program. The Broncs had three players earn UTPA Athletic Director's Honor Roll in Colin Norris, Blake Hughey and Pearce. In total, the Broncs had seven student-athletes earn Bronc Pride 3.0 Club Honors during the 2005-06 academic campaign.

Tredway came to the Rio Grande Valley after spending the previous two years as a Teaching Assistant for Hank Haney Golf Inc., in Dallas, TX, where he worked with more than 1,500 students varying from beginning-level golfers to PGA Tour professionals.

During his time with Hank Haney, who is considered one of the premier instructors in golf, Tredway observed training sessions with Tiger Woods, the number one player in the world, as well as Mark O'Meara and many others.

The Broncs' head coach has helped former college teammate and current PGA Tour standout Ben Crane with his all-around game, including instruction, caddying and tournament preparation.

"Ben had done more for me than I have done for him. Working one-on-one with the world's best putter has been an invaluable experience that has made me a more complete teacher, coach and player. Though Ben, I have met many of the top players in golf, instructors, fitness trainers and nutritionists. I have garnered a wealth of information that many people just do not have access to," said Tredway.

The native of Ashland, OR, was an assistant women's golf coach at the University of Alabama for one season in 2002-03 where he managed all aspects of travel for 12 members of the Crimson Tide squad. He was responsible for overseeing the Crimson Tide's academic progression where the squad received five All-SEC academic awards, including Darby Sligh, who was selected as the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Tredway competed on the Australian PGA Tour from 2000-02 where he qualified for the ANZ/Australasian PGA Tour in 2000 and 2001, including winning the first stage of Qualifying School in Brisbane, Queensland Australia.

The Broncs' coach was selected as the Rookie of the Year on the North Atlantic Tour in 2000. He was a four-time winner on the North Atlantic Tour and currently holds five course records while competing as a professional. On the Nationwide Tour, Tredway recorded his best finish when he was 17th at the 2000 Oregon Classic, finishing with a four-round score of 282 (70-73-68-71).

In his amateur days as a member of the University of Oregon men's golf team from 1995-00, Tredway was an All-Pac-10 performer during his junior season. He led the Ducks to a pair of NCAA Championship Appearances as well as a trio of NCAA Regional Appearances.

Tredway was a medalist in both the U.S. Amateur Championships and U.S. Public Links Championships after reaching the Qualifying Round in 1998 and 1999, respectively. In 1994, he captured the Oregon Junior Championship.

Tredway earned his bachelor's degree in anthropology from the University of Oregon in 2000. He currently resides in McAllen, TX.
