Broncs in Title Contention after First Two Rounds

Feb. 19, 2007

The University of Texas-Pan American men's golf team finished fifth overall out of 17 teams after the first two rounds of competition at the UTSA Roadrunner Intercollegiate in San Antonio, TX, on Monday (Feb. 19).

Jeff Hensley (Van Horn, TX/Van Horn H.S.) was the Broncs' top golfer after the first 36 holes as the UTPA junior finished with a two-round tally of 147 (72-75) en route to tying for 10th overall.

Kyle Tudi (Phoenix, AZ/Chaparral H.S.) finished 18th overall after the first two rounds of action with a combined score of 149 (77-72) while Shane Pearce (Carrollton, TX/Hebron H.S.) was a stroke back of his teammate with a two-round score of 150 (76-74).

Colin Norris (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/Cochrane H.S.) was tied for 30th overall at the UTSA Roadrunner Intercollegiate with a two-round score of 151 (77-74), and UTPA newcomer Armen Kirakossian (Portland, OR/Wilson H.S.) was tied for 56th overall with a score of 156 (79-77).

"I was really proud of the guys today because this was a gritty performance," said head men's golf coach Andrew Tredway. "The guys haven't been feeling very well, but they hung in there and put together a nice first day. It's nice to see that we didn't play our best golf out there today, but we are still in contention for the title."

The University of New Orleans and University of Louisiana-Monroe are tied for the tournament lead with a two-round score of 588 while Sam Houston State (590), University of Texas at San Antonio (595) and UTPA (597) round out the top five.

The final round of competition at the UTSA Roadrunner Intercollegiate will be held on Tuesday (Feb. 20) in San Antonio, TX.
