Senior Colin Norris (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/ Cochrane H.S.), Shane Pearce (Carrollton, TX/ Hebron H.S.) and Blake Hughey (Plano, TX/ Plano West H.S.) represented The University of Texas-Pan American Men's golf team on the Academic All-Independent list on Thursday (Jun. 7).
Norris became a two-time Academic All-Independent award winner as the UTPA senior posted a 3.4 cumulative grade point average in psychology. Norris completed his senior campaign ranked first on the team with a 75.5 strokes average and best finish came at the National Minority Golf Championships, where he tied for third overall with a three-round score of 215.
Pearce is a first-time Academic All-Independent award recipient as the Bronc has recorded a 3.6 cumulative grade point average in marketing. Pearce finished the season ranked second on the Broncs' squad with a 76.0 strokes average. The sophomores' best finish came at the National Minority College Golf Championships, where he finished 11th overall with a three-round score of 217.
First-time Academic All-Independent award recipient, Hughey recorded a 3.6 cumulative grade point average in business. As a freshman, Hughey was a Dean's List Second Honors recipient during the spring semester and earned his second consecutive trip to the Bronc Pride 3.0 Club and garnered UTPA Athletic Director's Honor Roll laurels.
The Division I Independent Men's Golf All-Academic team was selected by sports information directors at member institutions. Nominations from each school were accepted for student-athletes who had at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and had reached a sophomore athletic standing.
