EDINBURG,TX--With four Broncs in the top 10, the University of Texas-Pan American men's golf team concluded its first two rounds of action in second place with a 36-hole total of 611 (305, 306) at the UTPA Golf Classic at the Los Lagos Golf Club in Edinburg, Texas, on Monday (Nov. 2).
Freshman Brandon Reyna (Mission, TX/Sharyland H.S.) and Kevin Kirakossian (Tualatin, OR/ Tualatin H.S.) were the Broncs' top performers as they each fired a two-round score of 149, en route to finishing tied for fourth overall.
Orlando Moreno (Donna, TX/ UT-Brownsville) was tied for seventh overall with a two-round tally of 153, while Armen Kirakossian (Portland, OR/Wilson H.S.) was in ninth place, one-shot back of his teammate with a 36-hole total of 154.
"We didn't play our best golf today. Thankfully we still have a legitimate chance of winning the tournament to Tuesday," said head men's coach Santiago Larrea. "We just need to play to our potential and hopefully our senior; Armen can lead the way for us."
High Wongchindawest (Bangkok, Thailand/Heritage Academy) was tied for 12th overall with a tournament score of 158, and Adam Halley (Edinburg, TX/Heritage UT-Brownsville) notched a 36-hole tally of 159, en route to finishing tied for 14th overall. A.J. Gonzalez (Edcouch, TX/Edcouch-Elsa H.S.) shot a two total of 165, finishing tied for 21st place.
The Broncs will complete the third and final round of the UTPA Golf Classic on Tuesday (Nov. 3) at the Los Lagos Golf Club.
