Sophomore Brett Bernstein earned Aeropostale Southland Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week Honorable Mention laurels, which was released on Wednesday (Feb.27).
Bernstein finished the week with a 2-1 record in singles' action at the number-five position and a 3-0 record in the number-three doubles' position in a Southland Conference match-up and a pair of non-conference matches. In singles' action, Bernstein owns a 6-4 record and a 4-4 doubles' record.
The UTPA sophomore recorded a hard-fought 6-7, 7-6 and 6-2 victory over Alex Gasca-Silav of Nicholls State on Friday (Feb.22). Bernstein recorded a 6-2, 6-2 win against Kashwane Nelson of Southern University on Sunday (Feb.23) to improve the Broncs record to 5-6 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
In doubles' action in the number-two flight, Bernstein teamed up with Ashwin Vijayaragavan to defeat Eric Fisher and Phenyo Matong of Nicholls State on Friday (Feb.22) by a score of 8-6. Bernstein and Vijayaragavan followed their first win with an 8-6 victory against Medhi Darlis and Vladimir Paunic of Southeastern Louisiana (Feb.23).
The tandem finished off the weekend with a dominating 8-1 win over Elvis Espinal / Kashwane Nelson of Southern University on Sunday (Feb. 24).
The Broncs will be back in action on Sunday (Mar. 9) when they face-off against Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX with game-time slated for 1 p.m.
