The University of Texas-Pan American men's tennis team fell 6-1 to nationally-ranked Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Thursday (Apr. 3) at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
With the setback, the Broncs fell to 6-9 on the season and 2-3 in conference play while the Islanders improved to 8-7 overall and 3-0 in the SLC.
With a windy start at the Orville Cox Tennis Center, the Broncs struggled in doubles' action dropping all three matches to the Islanders.
In the top flight, Ivan Avila and Nirvick Mohinta fell to Mikhail Pavlov and Dmitry Novikov 8-6 while Brett Bernstein and Ashwin Vijayaragavan suffered a 8-2 setback to James Langford and Laurent Montoisy in the second flight.
Newcomers Marcus Dornauf and Andrew Irving dropped the third flight by a score of 8-4 to Jose Zunino and Jaume Farras.
In singles' play, newcomer Vijayaragavan was the only Bronc to capture his match playing in the number-two lineup spot.
Avila dropped his match by scores of 6-4, 6-2 to Montoisy in the number-one spot in the rotation while Vijayaragavan captured a 6-3, 6-3 decision over Pavlov in the number-two spot.
Mohinta suffered a 6-2, 6-2 setback over Novikov playing in the number-three position while Irving fell 7-6, 6-4 to Farras in the fourth spot in the lineup.
Bernstein lost his match by scores of 6-3, 5-0 def to Langford while Dornauf dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Zunino playing in the number-six spot.
The Broncs will be back in action on Saturday (Apr. 5) against Oral Roberts at the Orville Cox Tennis Center with match-time slated for 10 a.m.
