The University of Texas-Pan American men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to 72nd ranked University of San Francisco on Monday (Apr. 14) in San Francisco, CA.
With the setback, the Broncs fell to 7-9 on the season while the Dons improved to 14-6 overall.
The Broncs started the day off with doubles' action, as they dropped two of the three matches.
In the top flight, senior Ivan Avila and Marcus Dornauf suffered a 9-8 (2) decision to Asaf Cohen and Einar Hart while Nirvick Mohinta and Shashank Vij lost their match by a score of 8-4 to Thong Tu and Rainer Nachbauer in the second flight.
Picking up the third flight was tandem Brett Bernstein and Andrew Irving with a score of 9-7 against Mitch Del Rosario and Torin Ching.
After dropping the doubles' point, the Broncs fell in five of the six singles' matches. Newcomer Ashwin Vijayaragavan was the only Broncs to record a win for UTPA.
Avila suffered a 6-3, 6-1 setback playing in the number-one spot against Tu while Vijayaragavan recorded his 10th singles win of the season when he handed Nachbauer a three-set setback with scores of 3-6, 7-5, and 10-5 in the number-two spot in the rotation.
Falling in the third spot in the lineup was Mohinta who dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision against Cohen while Irving suffered a 6-3, 6-2 setback to Hart playing in the number-four spot in the rotation.
Bernstein lost the fifth flight to Del Rosario by scores of 6-3, 6-3 while Dornauf dropped a close 6-2, 2-6, and 10-4 against Greg Hom in the sixth spot in the lineup.
The Broncs will be back in action on Saturday (Apr. 19) in San Antonio, TX when they take on Southland Conference-foe University of Texas at San Antonio at 2 p.m.
Following the match-up against UTSA the men will prepare to compete in the Southland Conference Tournament on Apr. 25-27 in Nacogdoches, TX.
