After earning a first round bye in the Southland Conference Tournament, the University of Texas-Pan American men's tennis program fell short to Nicholls State as they lost 4-0 this Saturday (April 25) morning at the HEB Tennis Courts in Corpus Christi, Texas.

"First off, congratulations to Nicholls State; they played an amazing match yesterday against UTSA. They had to expel quite a bit of energy and we felt we were in good position to go out there and win today," said interim head coach Chris Gill. "In the pre-season, everyone had us finishing fifth or sixth; nobody expected us to finish second, I am very proud of them."

The Broncs were not able to capture the doubles point as they dropped No. 1 and 2 doubles. Aswin Vijayaragavan partnered up with Marcus Dornauf, but fell short to Radu Ionescu and Abhaya Prakash, 8-4. Nirvick Mohinta and Beau Bernstein then dropped a 9-7 decision to Phenyo Matong and Eric Fischer in No. 2 doubles.

The Broncs went scoreless in singles as they dropped No. 3, 2, and 5 singles.

Andrew Irving was the first of the Broncs to complete his match with a 6-1, 6-0 loss to Eric Fischer in No. 3 singles. Nirvick Mohinta then went to drop his match 6-3, 6-4 to Radu Ionescu. Rohan Shetty captured the final win for the Colonels as he defeated Marcus Dornauf 6-2, 7-6 (5).

The Broncs conclude the 2008-09 campaign with a (5-13, 4-2 SLC).
