After the rain finally stopped The University of Texas-Pan American men's tennis team took to the court at Roadrunner Stadium at the UTSA invite.
Doubles competition was taken care of quickly by Brett Bernstein and Aswin Vijayaragavan as the pair defeated Roessle and Meeks from Tyler Junior College 8-0. The duo of Beau Bernstein and Nirvick Mohinta came off the court after handing Delgado and Guanais from UTSA an 8-5 loss on their own home courts. Marcus Dornauf was paired with Blackshear from Texas A&M University in doubles play and they were defeated 8-4 by Jakouljaris and Thompson from Tyler Junior College.
"I'm incredibly proud of every single player today," said assistant coach Silke Buksik, "We played great tennis."
The Broncs then took control of their first round singles matches as Aswin Vijayaragavan defeated Calon Alpar from Texas A&M University 7-6 (3), 6-2 in the top flight, blue draw; while fellow Bronc, Nirvick Mohinta who also played in the blue draw, however came up short against Mario Jakovljevic from Tyler Junior College 5-7, 6-3, 2-6.
In the orange draw Beau Bernstein made quick work of opponent Patrick Dean from the 14th ranked team in the nation, Texas A&M University, 6-1, 6-1. His older brother, Brett Bernstein took control of his match defeating Bishop from Tyler Junior College 6-4, 6-1. Marcus Dornauf fought hard in his three set match, but in the end fell short of a win with, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 to Paulo Roessle from Tyler Junior College.
In the Broncs second round singles Aswin Vijayaragavan defeated Kayvon Karimi, a player from 14th ranked team in the nation, Texas A&M University 6-2, 1-6, 6-3. While the Bernstein duo soared through their second round matches, Beau Bernstein defeating Bernard Lancaster from St. Edwards 7-6, 6-2 while Brett Bernstein overpowered Marco Lopez from Tyler Junior College 6-2, 6-2.
"The men played to win today. They fought hard and got the job done. Tomorrow we will go back out to fight hard and win more matches" added Buksik"
The Broncs will be back in action tomorrow morning at the Roadrunner Stadium and will start with doubles.
