Dave Hartman begins his first season as the head coach with The University of Texas-Pan American men and women's track and field and cross country programs.

Hartman begins his 12th year of coaching after serving several seasons with The University of Texas-San Antonio, Texas A&M and the Georgia track and field and cross country programs. In his time, he has established himself as one of the most accomplished distance coaches in the country.

The newly-named head coach comes to the Rio Grande Valley from The University of Georgia were he spent the last four seasons as the assistant track and field and cross country coach. Hartman took the cross country program to their first-ever simultaneous appearance at the NCAA Championship meet, while guiding the women to the South Regional title in 2006. He then broke the school record with seven men and women earning All-Region accolades. That year, the Lady Bulldogs recorded their best finish at the NCAA Championship meet with a 15th place finish.

Performance on the track was key for Hartman, but so was performance in the classroom. In 2005, Hartman guided two of his runners to Academic All-American honors along with the entire women's cross country team to the Academic All-American team, as bestowed by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

In 2007, at the end of the track and field season, Hartman led his crew of runners to four All-American honors and six Southeastern Conference titles. Hartman was also named the 2007 USTFCCCA East Region Men's Distance Coach of the Year at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

At the end of his tenure, which was comprised of one year with the Bulldogs, Hartman finished with six All-Region, five All-SEC runners and one All-American.

Prior to joining the Bulldogs, Hartman spent six seasons with the Texas A&M Aggies where he guided the men's team to three NCAA appearances and the women's team to its first NCAA Championship meet in the program's history. While at A&M, Hartman produced five cross country All-Americans.

Preceding his stint with the Aggies, Hartman spent two seasons with UTSA where he was named Southland Conference Coach of the Year after guiding the men's team to its third consecutive conference championship, a runner up finish at the NCAA South Central Regional and its first-ever trip to the NCAA Championships.

Hartman is no stranger to the track as he himself was dubbed an All-American at Villanova before finishing his career at UTSA where he set the conference record of 29:54.48 in the 10,000-meters and was named the conference's "Outstanding Male Track Athlete" in 1996.

Hartman earned his degree in English from The University of Texas-San Antonio in 1996 and is married to the former Carla Dewey.
