The University of Texas-Pan American men and women's track and field program will be heading off to the Bobcat Relays in San Marcos, Texas hosted by Texas State University this Friday (March 7.)
"I'm pretty excited for this weekend. I feel our team is going to do really well. Our newcomer Jameson (Strahon) will be competing under the university so I'm excited with what he can bring," said head men and women's track and field coach Dennis Darling.
The men and women's track teams are looking to improving their times to make early qualifying marks for the NCAA Regional Championships in May.
"I think that Jameson can qualify in just about any of his events. Vanessa is another one who can do the same; she's in really good shape. We're just focused on regionals since we don't have a conference meet at the end of the season," added Darling.
A big showing came from the women's throwers last week with Stephanie Perez coming back from an injury last season. With her first showing back on the field, Perez placed second in the discus with a throw of 135-3.
"Stephanie is looking really good at practice. She's close to throwing qualifying marks in practice and it seems like she never missed a beat," said Darling.
The Bobcat Relays will be an all-day event this Friday (March 7) with field events beginning at 11:30 a.m. and running events beginning at 3:30 p.m.
