Track and Field Finish Strong at Texas Twilight

The University of Texas-Pan American finished strong at the Texas Twilight on Saturday (Apr. 29) at the Mike A. Myers Stadium.

In the field events, Brenda Gonzalez placed sixth in the javelin with a toss of 108-8. Duo Michelle Elizondo and Stephanie Perez placed second in their respective events. In the hammer throw, Elizondo threw a 154-5 and in the discus, Perez threw a 146-2.

Carolina Izaguirre took the first-place finish in the 3000M run with a time of 10:16.35 making it her personal best of the season. Izaguirre also competed in the 1500M run fast section placing ninth with a time of 4:48.01. Fellow teammate Sara Rodriguez finished in ninth with a time of 10:56.62 and Diana Galloso finished in 14th with an 11:26.55 time.

In the sprint relay, the women placed third behind UT-San Antonio with a time of 47.61.

Sabrina Montalvo snatched the 10th place finish in the 100M hurdles with a time of 14.60 making that her personal best of the season.

Junior Vanessa Brown finished in third in the 400M dash with a time of 55.21 and a fourth-place finish in the 200M dash with a time of 24.64. Ashlon Martin took two sixth-place finishes in the 200M and 400M dash. In the 200M, Martin finished with a time of 25.10 and in the 400M with a time of 56.71.

McAllen native Cecilia Lott placed seventh in the 200M dash with at time of 25.37 and fifth in the 100M dash with a time 12.23. Lott's times in both the 100M and 200M dash marks her personal bests for the season.

The women's 4x400M relay placed third with a time of 3:47.55.

On the men's side, Oscar Barrera took home a fifth-place finish in the hammer throw with a toss of 146-0, an 11th place finish in the discus with a toss of 138-8 and a seventh-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 40-8.

In the high jump, Will Littleton competed unattached but took the first-place spot with a jump of 6-9.

Newcomer Angel Ramirez took an eighth-place finish in the 3000M run with a time of 9:02.53 and an 11th place finish in the 1500M run with a time of 4:15.38.

In the 800M run, Wally Gonzalez placed sixth with a time of 1:52.99 and two spots behind in eighth, Gilroy Martinez finished with a time of 1:53.87. Martinez also competed in the 1500M run fast section and finished 13th with a time of 4:20.95.

Bahamian Jameson Strachan placed 3rd in the 400M dash with a time of 47.88 making that Strachan's season best. Strachan also competed in the 200M dash and took home an 11th place finish with a time of 21.84.

Luis Nava took home the fifth-place finish in the 1500M run fast section with a time of 3:50.18. Teammate Rolando Vela finished four spots behind in ninth with a time of 3:58.09.

Regional qualifier J.J. Hernandez placed 2nd in the 3000M steeplechase with a time of 9:10.44.

The Broncs will hit the track this Thursday, April 24 for the Rice Twilight hosted by Rice University. The Rice Twilight will be an all-day event.
