University of Texas-Pan American junior Aaron Castro (McAllen, TX/McAllen Memorial H.S.) was cited with ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI Men's Track and Field / Cross Country honors, which was announced on Wednesday (June 15).
Castro captured his first cross country championship at the UTSA/Whataburger Invitational, and finished first or second for the Broncs in three of the four meets that he competed. During the outdoor track and field season, Castro notched his best finish at the Spira Invitational where he took runner-up laurels in the 800 meters. He also placed 12th in the 1,500 meters at the Texas Invitational.
The Broncs' junior is the President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and graduated from UTPA in three years with a degree in business. He recorded a 3.975 grade point average and earned Dean's List and Bronc Pride 3.0 Club honors in every semester that he attended UTPA.
Along with serving as Vice President of FIRBA (Forum on International Relations and Business Affairs, Castro was also cited as a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society. During the spring of 2005, he was honored by the College of Business Administration as a Who's Who Among American College and University Students.
Castro became the second member of the UTPA athletic department to earn ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors as Lady Bronc golfer Nikki Boychuk (Conroe, TX/Willis H.S.) was cited with second team Academic All-District accolades on June 2nd.
