Head coach Dave Hartman announced the addition of Assistant Coach Juan Cardenas to the men's and women's track and field and cross country programs for the upcoming season.
Cardenas joins the Broncs from Mount Carmel Academy in Houston, Texas where he coached soccer, track and field, and cross country for the past two seasons.
The newly-named assistant ran collegiately at The University of Houston and Texas A&M. Cardenas earned multiple accolades, including 2001 Conference USA Freshman of the Year and was a member of the distance medley relay team that clocked a record setting time of 9:33.12 in 2004.
"Juan ran for me at Texas A&M, so he knows the training program and philosophy. He'll be a tremendous role model for our young student-athletes and hopefully will pass onto them his experience and knowledge," said head track and field and cross country coach Dave Hartman.
Cardenas will help primarily with the middle and long distance runners. He also brings experience with other event areas, such as the jumps and sprints, from when he coached at Mount Carmel.
Cardenas joins the staff of Head Coach Dave Hartman and Assistant Coaches Jennifer Leatherman and Xavier Richardson.
