2004
Cross Country - Ortiz recorded his best finish of the season at the UTSA/Whataburger Invitational where he finished in 17:11 en route to placing 11th overall... finished 33rd at the Islander Splash (28:40) and 36th at the Independent Championships (30:49)... Outdoor - As a sophomore, Ortiz broke into the UTPA track and field record books in the 10,000 meter with a time of 32:11.94, which was the fourth fastest time in program history... ran that time at the Bayou Classic hosted by Rice University where he won that event... placed fourth in the 3000 meter at the Angela Proctor Classic... finished 17th overall in the 5000 meter at the Rice Twilight... Indoor - Ortiz recorded his best time of the indoor season at the Houston / RunSport All-Comers, placing seventh with a time of 16:34.14 in the 5000 meters... also ranked 26th in the 3000 meters, recording a time of 9:38.25... Classroom - Ortiz was cited for his academic accomplishments earning UTPA Athletic Director's Honor Roll and United State Achievement Academy All-American Scholar laurels during the year... was a member of the Bronc Pride 3.0 Club for both semesters.

2003
Outdoor - Ortiz placed eighth at the Angela Proctor Classic in the 5000 meter with a time of 16:53.57... Indoor - The UTPA rookie had a fifth-place finish in the 5000 meter race with a time of 17:00.65 at the Houston Indoor Opener... Cross Country - Ortiz finished 11th at the UTSA/Whataburger Invitational with a time of 16:45... crossed the finish line in 25th in 30:43 in the 10K at the Independent Championships held at Texas A&M - Corpus Christi... Classroom - Ortiz was named to the Bronc Pride 3.0 Club during the fall and spring semesters.
