On an overcast afternoon at West Guth Park in Corpus Christi, Texas, the men and women's cross country teams collected sixth and seventh place finishes, respectively, at the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islander Splash this Friday (Sept. 25) afternoon.
In the men's five-mile run, junior M. Angel Ramirez was the men's top runner as he posted a time of 27:12.9 for a 21st place finish. Freshman Frank Garcia did not trail far behind as he crossed the finish line in a time of 27:40.9 for a 31st place finish.
With a time of 27:50.7, Omar Doria placed 37th for the Broncs, while Rolando Vela trailed by seven seconds with a time of 27:57.2. Senior Gilroy Martinez recorded a time of 30:06.5 and Luis Aguilar a 32:04.7.
On the women's side, newcomer Judith Chumba was the Lady Broncs top runner as she collected a time of 18:53.7 in the 5K run.
Cinthia Adame, Diana Galloso and Sasha Suarez all finished seconds apart from each other as Adame finished in a time of 19:25.0, Galloso in a time of 19:33.7 and Suarez in a time of 19:38.6.
Shayna Parker posted a time of 20:53.7, while Hilda Galloso finished in a time of 21:11.3. Daphne Payton and Michelle Zamora finished five-tenths of a second behind one another with Payton recording a time of 21:28.1 and Zamora a 21:28.6.
Mekka Edwards White and Yajaira Marmalejo finished in times of 24:13.3 and 24:56.1, respectively.
The men and women will have a two-week hiatus and will see their next competition on Oct. 9 at the HBU/Puma Invitational in Houston, Texas.
