After a week off of competition, the University of Texas-Pan American men and women's cross country program will head to Houston for the HBU/Puma Cross Country Invitational on Friday (Oct. 10).
Set to run for the men are J.J. Hernandez, Luis Nava, Angel Ramirez and Robert Najera. As for the women's team, the underclassmen look to Carolina Izaguirre for guidance on the course.
"We had to make a few modifications to our training to keep the runners from sustaining any minor injuries," said assistant cross country coach Hugo Cervantes. "I expect to see many individual event winners in both the men and women's competition."
The field for the HBU/Puma Cross Country Invitational consists of host team Houston Baptist, Rice, Prairie View A&M, Texas Southern and UTPA.
"Houston Baptist is in our conference so we get to see how we stand up against them for future competitions," said Cervantes.
The women's division is set to start competition at 6:00 p.m. with the men's division at 6:30 p.m. The Broncs and Lady Broncs will take a two week hiatus in preparation for the Great West Championship on Nov. 1 in Orem, UT.
