For the first time this season, the University of Texas-Pan American men's cross country team is ranked in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division I Cross Country Coaches' Poll as announced this past Monday (Nov. 2).
The men's team ranked 13th, in the regional poll, among a field that includes Arkansas, Texas, Texas A&M, Lamar, McNeese State, UTSA, Stephen F. Austin, UALR, Rice, Houston, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Baylor, Houston Baptist, and Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
"It is always nice being recognized for what your program has done. However, we are not satisfied with where we are and are always looking to improve our position," said head cross country coach Dave Hartman.
The men's team is coming off a fifth place performance at conference (Great West) and heads to the NCAA South Central Regional Championship meet in Waco, Texas on Nov. 14.
"We still have one more meet on the schedule, which gives us the opportunity to go out there and show everyone what we are made of. We want to establish ourselves as one of the teams in the region that consistently is going to be a solid program in the top-10 year in and year out," said Hartman.
The NCAA South Central Regional Championship will be hosted by Baylor University.
