Cross Country Struggle in Arkansas

The University of Texas-Pan American men's and women's cross country teams placed 12th and 13th overall at the 2007 Division I South Central Regional in Fayetteville, AR on Saturday (Nov.10).

The Broncs and Lady Brocns competed against teams from the Big 12, SEC, conference USA and Southland conferences. As a team, the Broncs finished in 12th place out of 14 teams with a total team time of 2:43:54.11.

The Broncs were once again led by junior standout Luis Nava (La Joya, TX/La Joya H.S.) who place 13th overall with a time of 30:15.30. Nava missed qualifying for national's by two spots.

J.J. Hernandez (San Juan, TX/PSJA North H.S.) crossed the end line in 39th place with a mark of 31:37.4 while Angel M. Ramirez (McAllen, TX/McAllen H.S.) finished the competition in 66th place with a mark of 32:41.2.

Newcomer Rolando Vela (Edinburg, TX/Edinburg North H.S.) crossed the finish line in 87th place with a time of 33:47.0 while Jorge Rodriguez (Hidalgo, TX/Valley View H.S.) came in 98th place with a mark of 35:33.2 and Gilroy Martinez Jr. (McAllen, TX/Nikki Rowe H.S.) finished in 102nd place with a time of 35:43.1, respectively.

Shadrack Songok of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi captured the men's title with a final time of 29:16.3 in the 10K run.

The Lady Broncs finished in 13th place overall out of 15 teams with a total team mark of 2:00:17.40.

Sophomore Carolina Izaguirre (Brownsville, TX/Hanna H.S.) crossed the end line in 53rd place with a time of 22:46.70 while Sara Rodriguez (Pharr, TX/Valley View H.S.) finished in 74th place with a mark of 23:27.90 and newcomer Diana Gallaso (Edinburg, TX/Edinburg H.S.) came in 89th place with a time of 24:07.80.

Rose Escovedo (Edinburg, TX/Edinburg North H.S.) crossed the finish line in 107th place with a time of 24:52.60 and Shardae Bey (Houston, TX/Elsik H.S.) place 111th overall with a mark of 25:22.30, respectively.

The Broncs and Lady Broncs concluded their 2007 cross country season and will begin preparing for the start of the 2007-08 track and field season.
