Lady Broncs' Road Woes Continue at Northern Colorado

Jan. 15, 2006

Box Score

The University of Texas-Pan American women's basketball team fell to 0-9 on the road for the 2005-06 season with a 72-52 loss at the hands of the Northern Colorado Bears on Sunday (Jan. 15) in Greeley, CO.

The Lady Broncs fell behind quick, trailing by as many as 14 during the first half. However, UTPA fought back and ended the half on a 25-8 run, capped by a Dominique Montague (Gilbert, AZ/Central Arizona College) jumper to close out the first stanza. The second half belonged to the Bears as they outscored the Lady Broncs 45-22.

Senior Devin Reed (Indianapolis, IN/Cowley County C.C.) led the Lady Broncs in scoring with 17 points on 7-12 shooting, including 3-6 from behind the three-point arc. Reed also finished with five rebounds, three assists and one steal

Two other Lady Broncs reached double-digits in points. MaHogany Daniel (Corpus Christi, TX/Mary Carroll H.S.) finished with 11 points and was just two rebounds shy of a double-double, with eight. Freshman Robin Garrett (Nacogdoches, TX/Nacogdoches H.S.) had a career-night, setting a new personal-best with 13 points. Garrett was 5-10 from the field and 3-6 from the charity stripe.

UTPA actually held an advantage on the boards, 40-39, but were undone by poor shooting in the second half. The Lady Broncs connected on just 29% of their shots in the second half after shooting 46% from the field during the first half of play. UTPA was also hurt by committing 18 turnovers in the game.

The Lady Broncs fall to 4-13 on the year while the Bears improved to 9-8. The two teams meet again on Feb. 6 in Edinburg, TX at the UTPA Fieldhouse.

The Lady Broncs conclude their current four-game road trip against Utah Valley State on Tuesday (Jan. 17) in Orem, UT with tip-off set for 7:05 p.m.
