EDINBURG.TX--The University of Texas-Pan women's basket program dropped a 63-47 decision to the University of North Dakota (UND), at the UTPA Fieldhouse in Edinburg, Texas this Thursday evening (Jan. 28).

The Lady Broncs fell behind quickly in the first after UND opened up the game with a 15-4. The Broncs battled back as the half went on and got within six points and headed in the locker room with the score 29-23.

In the second half, UND stretched their lead to 10 points after a basket by Corey Lof made it 35-25 with 17:38 on the clock. The Lady Broncs went on a 12-0 run to take the lead after Aleeya Grigsby sank two free throws with 12:26 left in the game. The Broncs were unable to hold the lead behind UND's accurate shooting as they went on to eventually come away with the win by a score of 63-47.

"You have to give North Dakota credit, they came out to play," said head coach Denny Downing. "Sometimes, when you have time off between games it can work against you. I felt we played well in spurts, we just need to hit on all cylinders for the entire game," added Downing.

Aleeya Grigsby led the Lady Broncs with 13 points and nine rebounds. For UND, Mallory Youngblut had a game high 14 points and nine rebounds. Jossy Bergan, Whitney Ledger and Kayla Bagaason each added 11 points to round out the leading scorers for UND.

North Dakota shot 39.0% from the field, 31.6% from behind the three-point arc and 83.3% from the free-throw line. The Lady Broncs shot 29.2% from the field, 15.0% from beyond the three-point line and 80.0% from the free-throw line.

The Lady Broncs return to action this Saturday afternoon (Jan. 30) against South Dakota with tip-off scheduled for 2:15 p.m. at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
