Lady Broncs Suffer Setback Over Texas

The Lady Broncs were handed a 91-43 loss by 16th ranked University of Texas at the Frank Erwin Center on Friday evening.

The Lady Broncs dropped their overall record to 8-8 on the season while the Longhorns improved to 12-2 and extended their win streak to 10 games.

Straight out the gate the Longhorns connected on multiple buckets putting the Lady Broncs in a 19-point deficit with 15:27 left in the first half. Senior LeKeisha Gray finally highlight the scoreboard for the Lady Broncs as she connected on a three-pointer at the 15:14 mark, making the score 19-3.

Gray was the only Lady Broncs to finish in double-figures as she led the team with 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting, 5-of-9 from three-point range, to go along with five rebounds and four steals in 35 minutes of action. Gray alone hit five of the Lady Broncs six three-pointers in the game.

The Longhorns lead continued to grow as they pulled away to a 31 point advantage heading into halftime, making the score 51-21.

The second half looked almost identical to the first, as Texas was unstoppable offensively, shooting from all angles of the court. The Longhorns led by as many as 49 with 6:20 left in the game after Kathleen Nash hit from three-point range, making the score 83-34.

UTPA was out powered and outscored as the Longhorns were able to secure a 91-43 victory at the Erwin Frank Center in Austin, TX.

Five Longhorns finished in double-digit scoring and all connected on five or more points in the contest. Ashley Lindsey finished with a team-high 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting, 1-of-2 from the charity stripe while Nash chipped in with 11 points and seven rebounds.

For the game, the Lady Broncs finished shooting 31.5 percent (17-of-34), 26.1 percent (6-of-23) from three-point range, and 50 percent (3-of-6) from the charity stripe.

The Longhorns out-rebounded the Lady Broncs 49-26 and forced 25 turnovers to UT's 13.

The Lady Broncs will be back in action on Wednesday (Jan. 9) as they host New Jersey Institute of Technology at 7 p.m. at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
