After scoring 27 points and grabbing 25 rebounds in back-to-wins last week, senior Aleeya Grigsby was named Great West Conference Player of the Week as announced by the conference office this past Monday (Jan. 11).
"Aleeya is very deserving of this honor after posting those kinds of numbers last week. It is great to see the recognition she solely deserves," said Head Women's Basketball Coach Denny Downing.
The 6-0 forward from Nacogdoches, Texas scored nine points and posted 11 rebounds in the Lady Broncs second win at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
She then followed that performance with her second double-double of the season with 18 points and 14 rebounds at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Grigsby also recorded two blocks and three steals and finished a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe.
"Receiving this honor makes me feel good because everything Coach Downing has taught us is finally showing and getting that recognition," said senior forward Aleeya Grigsby.
"With back-to-back wins [heading into conference], I know it is our time to shine. As a team, we are getting into coach's style and now we can get things rolling for conference."
The Lady Broncs open up conference play at the UTPA Fieldhouse as they host NJIT on January 14th with tip-off slated for 5:45 p.m.
