Hard work does pay off. Just ask Marah Guzman. Guzman, an Edinburg High standout and transfer from West Texas JC, was rewarded for her efforts. Lady Bronc Head Coach DeAnn Craft awarded her a full scholarship to finish her collegiate career with the Lady Broncs.
"Marah is the consummate team player," Craft said. "She has a great fundamental package, a tremendous work-ethic and applied herself daily to learn the DI game. She is a player we could always count on. She came prepared for practice and regardless of her role each night...she was ready."
Guzman saw action in 26 games this season averaging 10 minutes per game. Her field goal percentage was among the best on the team at 41.3%. In her first start, she played 22 minutes, shot 87.5% from the field and scored 16 points.
"Marah has continued to expand her game and is becoming a complete player at the collegiate level. Coach Carmona and her staff at Edinburg High prepared her very well and we are proud to reward Marah Guzman for the 2009-10 season," added Craft
At Edinburg High, Guzman was a four-year letterman in basketball, soccer, and softball where she was named to three All-Star games in basketball and one in softball. During her senior campaign, she reached the 1,000-point mark and helped the Lady Bobcats to a Sweet 16 tournament appearance.
