Sept. 29, 2009

The University of Texas-Pan American women's basketball program and head coach Denny Downing announced the additions of Assistant Coach G Maeweather and Director of Basketball Operations Alana Lara.

Maeweather joins the UTPA women's basketball program from Loyola University in Chicago, IL where she spent two seasons as the assistant women's basketball coach for the Ramblers.

While at Loyola, Maeweather assisted with the day-to-day duties of the program, while handling the post players on the court. She was also responsible for the academic progress of the women, player adherence to team rules, recruiting and coordinating summer camps.

Newly-named Director of Basketball Operations Alana Lara had a change of heart before arriving in the Rio Grande Valley as she spent some time as a chiropractic assistant. Lara was not far from sports as she also spent time as a manager at the Youth InterACTIVE in Austin, Texas.

Lara also played collegiate basketball at Collin County Community College for two seasons where she earned multiple honors as well as another two seasons at St. Edward's University.

Maeweather and Lara join newly-named assistant coach Britney Jordan, Assistant Coach Keelah Wilson and head coach Denny Downing for the 2009-10 campaign.
