The University of Texas-Pan American women's basketball program inked its third player for the 2008-09 campaign when Shavon Walker (Schertz, TX/ Clemens H.S.) signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Lady Broncs.

"Shavon Walker is so unique," said head women's basketball coach DeAnn Craft. "She has averaged a double-double for the past two seasons and is so solid in her approach to the game. We identified her early and know that she will fit our system perfectly. She is another player that can post, can pass and can finish."

"We love her character, her fight, and she will do whatever has to be done to be successful at this level," added Craft.

As a junior at Clemens High School, the newly-signed Lady Bronc averaged 18 points and 12 rebounds per game en route to a 26-4A first team all-district selection. Walker led the Lady Buffaloes to a 14-18 overall record, including a 7-7 mark in district.

"Shavon is a tremendous athlete, with a great work ethic," said Clemens High School coach Veronda Kendall. "We are so excited that she will have the opportunity to continue her basketball career on the college level. She is the type of athlete that will have an immediate impact on the women's basketball program at UTPA."

The newly-inked Lady Bronc was the Lady Buffalos' leading rebounder with 320 and was named the best defensive player in the 2006-07 campaign.

"I am very excited to play at the next level," said Walker. "I have always wanted to play college basketball since 6th grade, and now to have the opportunity, I feel very excited and blessed."

This season, the 5'10 senior captain is averaging 15 points and 12 rebounds per game and is one of two starters returning to this years Lady Buffalo basketball team.
