The UTPA women's golf team concluded the first day of competition in ninth place with a score of 660 (329-331) at the UTSA Rowdy Round-Up on Monday (Mar. 20).
Seniors Daniela Cortes (Aguascalientes, Mexico/Colegio Portugal) and Stefanie Maynard (Pflugerville, TX/Pflugerville H.S.) were the Lady Broncs' top performers in San Antonio, TX, as the duo tied for 18th place with a 36-hole tally of 159.
Nikki Boychuk (Conroe, TX/Willis H.S.) tied for 33rd overall after the UTPA senior posted a two-round total of 164 (77-87). Melissa Uriegas (Edinburg, TX/PSJA North H.S.) finished the first two rounds of the tournament tied for 60th overall with a score of 179.
UTPA newcomer Bronwyn Sandberg (St. Albert, Alberta, Canada/Bellerose Composite H.S.) was two strokes back of her teammate with a score of 181 (90-91) while finishing 62nd overall.
Oklahoma City wrapped up the first two rounds of the tournament in the top position with a score of 605 while Lamar (619), Western New Mexico (625), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (626) and Texas State (628) rounded out the top five.
The third round of the UTSA Rowdy Round-Up will conclude on Tuesday (Mar. 21).
