The University of Texas-Pan American women's golf team will begin its spring season on the road at Corpus Christi, TX, for the Islander Spring Classic hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
The Lady Broncs will look improve on their finish at the Islander Spring Classic during the 2006 season where they concluded the tournament with a 15th-place showing.
Mariale Camey (Ciudad, Guatemala, University of New Orleans) will lead the Lady Broncs at the Islander Spring Classic as the UTPA sophomore is coming off a tournament championship at the 2007 Central American Championships in Guatemala a few weeks ago.
With several new faces in the lineup during the fall season, the Lady Broncs will look to build upon their experience with a strong finish at the Islander Spring Classic.
Elizabeth Rodriguez (Kingwood, TX/Kingwood H.S.) is the Lady Broncs' most experienced player in the lineup, and the UTPA junior finished third on the team with an 81.6 strokes average in four tournaments during the fall season after taking a season off.
Sophomore Bronwyn Sandberg (St. Albert, Alberta, Canada/Bellerose Composite) will also be looked upon to make a strong showing at the Islander Spring Classic along with newcomers Rebecca De Leon (Mission, TX/Veterans Memorial H.S.), My Bark (Gothenburg, Sweden/Goteborgs Hogre Samsicola) and Jennifer Marks (El Paso, TX/McLennan C.C.).
The two-day, 56-hole event will take place at the Corpus Christi Country Club with the first 36 holes to be played on Monday (Feb. 26) followed by the third and final 18 holes to be followed on Tuesday (Feb. 27).
