The University of Texas-Pan American women's golf program placed 17th overall at the UALR Women's Golf Classic this Tuesday (March 31) afternoon at the Diamonte Country Club in Hot Springs, AR.
"With the weather conditions the way they were, it made the course play longer. We learned from this tournament that we must start and finish strong," said Director of Men and Women's Golf Ofelia Lopez. "You get no roll with a wet course, which causes you to lose 20-30 yards and everything becomes longer for us."
UTPA found themselves with two Lady Broncs, seniors Mariale Camey and Bronwyn Sandberg, tying for 47th with a 27-over-par 243 to lead the Lady Broncs.
Sixteen spots behind the seniors, Haley Hocott tied for 63rd with a 31-over-par 247.
Freshman Sarah Kothny and Maria Jose Camey round out the Lady Broncs with total scores of 257 and 259 respectively.
UALR split the tournament title with Florida International as both teams shot 927 in three rounds of golf. Oral Roberts (T-2nd / 934), Central Arkansas (T-2nd / 934) and Eastern Michigan (5th / 946) round out the top-five winning teams at the UALR Women's Golf Classic.
The University of Missouri-Kansas City's Kelsey Kipp took the individual tournament title as she shot a 5-over-par 221.
The Lady Broncs next prepare for the Great West Conference Championship on April 20 hosted by Houston Baptist.
