Natalie Haime (Carleton Pl., Ontario, Canada/ Perth District Collegiate Institute), Elizabeth Rodriguez (Kingwood, TX/ Kingwood H.S.), Mariale Camey (Ciudad, Guatemala/ Univ. of New Orleans), Melissa Uriegas (Edinburg, TX/ PSJA North H.S.), and Bronwyn Sandberg (St. Albert, Alberta, Canada/ Bellerose Composite) represented The University of Texas-Pan American women's golf team on the 2006-07 Academic All-Independent Team, which was released on Thursday (June 7).
Hamie, a journalism major, earned Bronc Pride 3.0 Club accolades for the sixth straight semester and was selected to represent UTPA at the 2006 NCAA Leadership Conference in Orlando, FL. in spring 2006. The Lady Bronc finished her senior campaign with a 3.5 cumulative grade point average.
Rodriguez, majoring in pre-medicine posted a 3.7 cumulative grade point average and earned All-Independent second team honors for the second time in her career as the UTPA junior competed in nine tournaments. She posted the best finish of her collegiate career at the National Minority College Golf Championships, where she garnered a third-place finish in her junior campaign.
Newcomer Camey, majoring in business management is a first time Academic All-Independent award recipient finished with a 3.4 cumulative grade point average. She concluded her sophomore campaign ranked second on the squad with an 81.6 strokes average and was selected to the All-Independent first team.
Uriegas, a first time Academic All-Independent award recipient, majoring in biology was awarded for the second time with the State Farm Insurance/PGA Minority College Golf Scholarships at the Opening Ceremony of the 21st-Annual National Minority Golf Championships in Port St. Lucie, FL. The UTPA sophomore finished with a 3.6 cumulative grade point average and was a Dean's List First Honors selection en route to earning her second trip to the Bronc Pride 3.0 Club.
Sandberg, concluded her sophomore campaign ranked fourth on squad with a 85.7 strokes average and a 3.2 cumulative grade point average in business. Her best finish came at the National Minority College Golf Championships, where she placed tied for 10th with a three-round score of 248.
The Division 1 Independent Men's Golf All-Academic team was selected by sports information directors at member institutions. The team was comprised of three seniors, eight juniors and 14 sophomores.
